He was All-Big Ten as a senior and made The Sporting News All-American Team. He went to Michigan as a quarterback but switched to defense and became one of the finest defensive backs in Wolverine history. Drafted by the Colts in the 2nd round in 1967, Rick moved into the starting lineup as a rookie. Colt Head Coach Don McCafferty says, "Rick plays like a ten-year man. He has a lot of savvy and he's very aggressive." Rick has returned interceptions for 90-yards in 1968 and 94-yards in 1967, the latter being a Colt club record.
