(New York)Copyright: 1939 (by the publisher) - Not stated but presumed first edition. Page 1 is the title page. Page 2 has an introductory paragraph, the list of characters and instructions for the first scene. Pages 3 through 9 contain the songs and dialogue, as well as instructions for the dance to the opening musical number ("Rosa"). Pages 10 through 12 contain the descriptions of characters, the costumes, the make up, the scenery (with stage diagrams), the properties, the lighting, as well as other production hints. The remaining four pages of the booklet are notices for four other plays in the "Thirty Minutes With..." series. Author-composer H. L. Bland was a well known music educator in Ohio, whose career appears to have started in the 1910s. By 1940 (shortly after the appearance of the play I am selling), he was music director for the Leesville (Crawford Count), Ohio public schools. An article in the Massillon, Ohio Evening Independent newspaper stated: "Mr. H. L. Bland ... is known, nationally, being the author of the 30-minute series, which include 'Santa Claus,' 'Lincoln,' 'Washington,' and 'Pilgrims,' each centered about music of the time indicated. These famous little operettas have been worked out by Mr. Bland with the aid of the rural school children of the Leesville area." Bland continued to be active professionally until at least 1948, judging from the continued appearance of various newspaper articles on his activities.
