The Vermont Brigade takes its place alongside the Irish Brigade and the Iron Brigade as one of the celebrated Brigades of the Army of the Potomac. This account presents an account of its service in the Shenandoah Valley in 1864 under the command of Union General Phillip Sheridan. The author, Aldace F. Walker, was an officer in the 11th Vermont and became a battalion commander of the unit as part of the 6th Corps under Sheridan. The book contains chapters titled Preliminary, Fort Stevens, Snickers Gap, Sheridan, To Strasburg and Back, Charleston Camp Life and An Episode, Opequan, Fishers Hill, A Month of Campaigning, Cedar Creek and Conclusion. The book also contains a comprehensive roster of unit dead from the campaign and the complete, official report from Sheridan on the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1864.
