Here one can admire the superb work by the artist, which has led to its admiration across the globe. This group of statues represents Prince Rahotep and his wife Nofret. They are featured in seated positions and are currently being displayed at the Tahris Museum in front of Queen Hetepheres’s display room. This statue was found in the tomb of Ra Hotep at Meidum. It was located behind a brick wall on the north side of the cemetery. During the excavation work in this cemetery, one of the workers noticed an unevenness in one of the walls of the cemetery and that made them make a hole in this wall to see what lay behind. However, the workers were terrified because the sunlight hit the eyes of the statues, which were inlaid with glass, and as a result, created a sparkle that scared the workers! In addition, the realism of the statues’ faces made them appear as real people. The real reason for creating these statues and placing them behind a wall was because, during the reign of King Khufu, there was a law issued which stated that the manufacture of any statues other than that of kings and deities, were to be destroyed. As a result, and fearing for their status, they decided to hide them. The statues were placed in the western corner of the cemetery. However, Rahotep was forced to re-divide the cemetery so that the statue could be placed on the north side, and since the statue is collective (attached) this did not allow the entire statue to enter as one block because it was too large. So, it was separated into two parts – one representing Rahotep and the other his Wife Nofret sitting. Prince (Ra Hotep) sits on a chair that has a backrest that extends beyond the shoulders and has his titles registered on it, including Chief of the Soldiers - Kabir Falaki Iono - Head of Architectural Works -Chief of the Army - Commander of the armies of Heliopolis. in this way ...It is believed that Prince (Ra Hotep) is one of the sons of King (Senefru), but from a non-royal wife and he is a brother of the King (Khufu), who ascended the throne after his father, the king Sneferu. Rahotep is represented in a natural pose. Any questions are welcome. We will respond in 24 hours.Thank you for visiting our shop.
