Description: The Rise and Fall of the Russian Empire: Catherine Kopek & Nicholas II. Each boxed set includes story card and Certificate of Authenticity Catherine the Great (Coin and Stamp Box) Description Weighing in at a massive 51 grams on average, these enormous 5-kopek copper coins are almost twice as heavy as U.S. silver dollars of the same period. The elaborate monogram on the obverse, E T, stands for Ekaterina Tsarina; the reverse shows the Romanov two-headed eagle. Catherines influence was so great that her extra-large design was copied by the King of England; the British cartwheel twopence, a similarly large coin, was issued in 1797, a year after Catherines death. Her coins, outsized as they are, are a fitting monument to her memory. Also includes a postage stamp with her image. Nicholas II of Russia: The Last Romanov (Boxed Set of Four Coins and a Stamp) Description Nicholas II (b. 1868) was the last of the Romanov line. His nickname was Bloody Nicholas, a moniker earned from his vicious response to the peaceful protests outside the Winter Place in 1905the notorious Bloody Sunday massacreand his fondness for anti-Jewish pogroms and political assassination. His bumbling military leadership resulted in a humiliating defeat in the Russo-Japanese War and some 3.3 million Russian casualties in the Great War. He abdicated the throne in 1917 and was executed by the Bolsheviks on July 16, 1918, along with his wife and all five of his children. On that tragic day, the Romanov Dynasty died. This set featutes a postage stamp, as well as a copper 1 and 3 kopek, and silver 10 and 20 kopek, of the Last Romanov.
