The magazine was a monthly for the first 20 years and then switched to a schedule of 10 issues a year. It began as The Open Road, which expanded to The Open Road for Boys in October 1925. The title was changed to Open Road: The Young People's Magazine in April 1950. During its final year, the title changed to American Boy and Open Road with the July 1953 issue. The Open Road was originally published by The Torbell Company of Boston. By 1940, the circulation had climbed to over 300,000. Covers of issues of The Open Road for Boys are very collectible and look great framed!
