Description: The H. C. Bunner medal was awarded by the English Department of Columbia University for the best assay relating to American literature. It was produced by Tiffany Foundry and designed by Charles Y. Harvey, a student of Augustus St. Gaudens. One could easily confuse it for St. Gauden's personal work, as it resembles his style so closely. The obverse depicts "...a kneeling youth, unclad, turning the pages of a book", while the reverse "...is the King's crown of old King's College". The piece is cast rather than struck - something that Tiffany did relatively frequently. Overall the quality of the piece is what you would expect from Tiffany. The edge is thick and smooth and the general appearance is very attractive. This is such a rare opportunity. 37mm in diameter.Bronze.Charles Y. Harvey.Tiffany. Thanks for looking!
