Description: Offered here is a unique piece of ORIGINAL ART featuring a SUPERMAN SUNDAY ORIGINAL ART dated 9-10-1950 by Wayne Boring.Note: The first title panel is a paste-up stat. The art is three separate strips of paper mounted on board. There is a small tape stain in the title panel.This is a very rare example of a late Golden Age Superman Sunday strip, originally published on September 10, 1950 with artwork by the essential Man of Steel artist of the era, Wayne Boring. Stan Kaye provided inks. The strip features Superman, Lois Lane and one of the Man of Steel's most famous foes, the 5th Dimensional imp Mister Mxyztplk. The earliest Mr. Mxyztplk story appeared in Superman #30 (1944). Due to publishing lag time, the character saw print first in the Superman daily comic strip drawn by Boring.Following the successful comic book launch of Superman in Action Comics #1 (1938), creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were able to realize their original dream and launched Superman as both a daily and Sunday comic strip in 1939. At its peak, the strip was in over 300 daily newspapers and 90 Sunday papers, with a readership of over 20 million. The strip continued until 1966 and was periodically revived over the next couple of decades.About the ArtistWayne Boring is one of the most important artists to ever work on Superman, exceeded perhaps only by co-creator Joe Shuster and Curt Swan. He began working for the Siegel and Shuster studio in 1937 before Superman even premiered, working mainly without credit for several years. After Superman launched, Boring became a ghost on the Superman comic strip, eventually becoming the credited artist. Boring was hired as a DC staff artist in 1942 and would become the primary artist on the feature after Shuster's departure, a role that continued throughout the 50s.
