Description: Magnetic Lodestone from Utah Lightning-stuck Iron Ore • 65 % to 70 % Iron Background: Utah is a major source of iron ore and in particular, natural magnetic ore called lodestone. These particular specimens are very rich in iron, making them magnetic, and full of tiny, micro crystals, creating a beautiful specimen that sparkles in the sun. We have included photos of the mineral you will receive, samples that are covered in iron filings, attract paper clips, and can be surrounded by compasses, showing the location and direction of the magnetic field. These specimens are great for classroom use, adding to your collection, or incorporating into your healing and mineral therapy programs. How Do I Know This is Really a Natural Magnet? There are several clues that lead us to the conclusion that these are bona fide natural magnets: 1. Appearance: We hate to state the obvious but take a good look. It looks and feels like a heavy, ore bearing rock. No real imagination required. 2. Collecting Location: These specimens were collected from the Iron Mountain District, also known as the Iron Springs Mining District, in southwestern Utah, near Cedar City. It is a mineral deposit that is famous for producing ore to complete the transcontinental railway, and for producing the iron used during World War II to make boats, planes, tanks, armored vehicles and a host of other items. The area most recently has been providing thousands of tons of iron to fuel China;s growing economy. 3. Host Rock: The district is made of three primary topographic highs along a 17 mile lineament: Iron Mountain to the southwest, Granite Mountain in the middle, and Three Peaks in the northwest. Mineralization in this district occurred as rings around the highs as a skarn, a replacement of existing carbonate rock material with high-grade iron ore, mostly in the form of high-grade (greater than 50%Fe in places) magnetite, but also locally hematite. Minor pyrite is also present. Hot fluids are sourced from mid-Tertiary intrusions, which core all three areas. 4. Magnetic Inferences: Take a peek at the pictures and you will see that the ore attracts a) iron filings, which give the mineral a fuzzy appearance and b) paperclips. Paperclips are made with iron. Iron is attracted to objects that produce a magnetic field, like iron, nickel or cobalt. For the record, the strength of the magnetic field does not increase or decrease with the size of the mineral. You should expect the same results that you see in the photos, using paperclips or iron filings, regardless of the size of the mineral. Bigger is not stronger, just heavier. Metaphysical Uses: Magnetite is considered a potent stone for manifestation, helping you to attract what you most desire, including both desirable situations and people. Also called Lodestone, this form of the stone is naturally magnetic. It has an impressive capacity to balance the hemispheres of the brain. It may aid you to bring whatever you most want into your life, and its magnetic properties makes it a highly effective spiritual grounding stone. The vibration of this stone will attract into your present situation the experiences or opportunities that you need to experience in your life.
