Description: Studio Pottery, Stan Gibson, 15" Oval Serving Dish, Washington State, USAPhotos cannot do justice to this beautiful studio pottery serving tray by Washington State artist, Stan Gibson. The moody black and maroon base glazes support vibrant flashes, drips and mottling of teal, deep red, ivory, white, green and tan. Colors are richer and warmer than photos show.This is a utilitarian serving piece worthy of displaying as a work of art.Incised "SG" on the unglazed bottom.Possibly dates to the 2010s, per online research, but can't confirm. Body appears to be porcelain and is glossy glazed inside and out except for the unglazed base.The oval shape appears to be slab formed with flared sides and tactile, altered, ruffled ends. Measures 15" long, 1" high and 7" wide. Weighs 2 pound, 6 ounces before packaging.Very good pre-owned condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, utensil or surface marks. Appears never used. There is minor shelf wear to the unglazed bottom. Any glaze misses, flea bites or rough spots are part of the handmade process and not damage of any kind.Stan Gibson is a well-known Pacific Northwest artist and teacher who has worked out of Longview, Washington for over 40 years. He received his Fine Arts degree, with a concentration in Ceramics, from Portland State University. His works are shown and sold at regional craft shows and galleries throughout the Pacific Northwest. Although he strives to make pots that serve a useful and decorative role, using strong forms and craftsmanship to form his process, his glazes are also mesmerizing.
