The parents of St Therese of Lisieux were recently canonized by Pope Francis. Her mother, Marie-Azelie Guerin, and father Louis Martin, were devout Catholics who had originally intended to enter religious life, but God had other plans and arranged a meeting between the two young people. "Zelie" and Louis knew when they met that they were destined to be together. This loving couple had nine children; only 5 survived infancy - five daughters, the youngest we know as St Therese of Lisieux. This couple, who never ceased to look for God's will throughout their marriage, are wonderful role models for young couples today. They were canonized as a couple - the first time in Church history. They are the patron saints of family life and marriage.
