Description: Serpentine stone and iron. Signed Snow Nkanjo. Hand made in Zimbabwe. 3.75" Height 5" Length 3" Width I lb weight Snowden Nkanjo is the brother of sculptor Bernard Nkango. From a very young age he began assisting his brother in his studio. In 1996 he worked with another Zimbabwean sculptor Garrison Machinjili. In 1997 he went out on his own and started creating birdbaths which were sold through Gallery 2000 (now closed) in Harare. The sculptures are first shaped using chisels, rasps and sometimes a Dremel. The shape is then refined by sanding to a smooth finish. It is washed and heated in a fire or by blow torch then wax is applied and is buffed. Because each piece is created by hand, and as natural stone has flaws and imperfections, no two pieces are alike. The condition of the sculpture is excellent overall showing light and minimal use with no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs, staining, discoloration or other damage. The bird bears his weight on this right foot and it seems slightly off balance. Pre-owned items are used and show varying amounts of wear. For this reason, I provide many pictures, please take a moment to look at them closely. The photos are of the exact item you are bidding on. If you have any questions, or would like additional photos, please let me know prior to placing a bid. Carefully packed and boxed, and ships promptly via USPS Priority Mail or Ground Advantage Mail, per buyer's choice.
