Michael George Westmore I (born March 22, 1938) is an acclaimed American makeup artist, best known for his contributions to multiple Star Trek productions and for winning nine Emmy Awards. A member of the legendary Westmore family of makeup artists, he won an Academy Award for Best Makeup in 1985 for his work on the film Mask. Westmore's career began at Universal Studios in 1961 and spanned over four decades. He also created makeup kits for CIA agents working undercover overseas during his early career. Born in Los Angeles, California, Michael Westmore comes from a family deeply rooted in Hollywood's makeup industry. He is the son of renowned makeup artist Monte Westmore, husband of model Marion Bergeson Westmore, and father to McKenzie Westmore, Michele Westmore Meeks, and Michael Westmore II. His brothers, Marvin and Monty Westmore, are also makeup artists. The Westmore family's involvement in the industry dates back to 1917, when Michael's grandfather, George Westmore, established the first makeup department in a Hollywood studio. Michael's father worked on Gone with the Wind, while his uncles—Bud (who co-created the creature in Creature from the Black Lagoon), Perc (Warner Brothers), Wally (Paramount), Ern, and Frank—were all prominent makeup artists in major Hollywood productions.
