St. Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to Them for me and obtain my request. St. Dymphna, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us." ~ Prayer to St. Dymphna, patron saint of those afflicted with mental illness, Alzheimers, nervous disorders, stress, therapists, victims of incest, and those who have suffered the loss of parents. Although many had never heard of St. Dymphna, she has recently become more well known during these recent times of worry, fear and anxiety urgently afflicting us. She is someone to turn to when experiencing mental issues and can be invoked for help coping with a range of stressors -- from daily issues to more serious anxiety disorders and mental afflictions. St. Dymphna was born to a wealthy royal family who ruled a section of Ireland in the 7th century. Her mother was a devout Catholic who instilled deep faith into her daughter's upbringing. Her father Damon was a pagan. Dymphna was a young girl of great beauty who closely resembled her mother, who died when Dymphna was fourteen years old. Dymphna's father Damon, in his grief, suffered from severe mental illness to the point of near insanity. This mania, and Dymphna's resemblance to his deceased wife, wrought Damon to marry Dymphna. Dymphna refused and fled to Belgium with two family servants and a priest. Damon ultimately tracked down his daughter. After killing the priest, he ordered his soldiers to cut off Dymphna’s head if she still refused to marry him. Remaining true to her faith, Dymphna refused to comply. Damon's response was to kill his daughter by his own hand. She was 15 years old. We may not see instant resolutions and healing, or the outcome which we personally had hoped for, but that doesn't mean we can't throw ourselves into the arms of God and His mercy. Natural wear and tear will also affect your jewelry. By following these simple tips, however, you can maintain your jewelry’s beauty for as long as possible: > DO NOT GET YOUR BRACELET WET ~ Keep your jewelry away from moisture. It is best to remove your bracelet before washing your hands, showering, exercising and swimming since contact with moisture can break down the elastic, ruin finishes and tarnish metals and charms. > AVOID CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS ~ Perfume, soap, moisturizer, lotion, hand sanitizer or other chemicals can weaken the elastic, harm natural crystals and result in the discoloration and peeling of beads and gemstones. > AVOID HEAT EXPOSURE ~ Leaving your bracelet in sunlight or exposed to heat for an extended period of time may lead to elastic erosion and can cause beads and metal to discolor. Remove your bracelet while exercising. > ROLL IT ON AND OFF ~ Do not over-stretch your bracelet! It has been made with pre-stretched elastic. Over-stretching it beyond its capacity will cause it to break. To keep from overly stretching it to put it on and off, slide your fingers into the bracelet first, then gently roll the beads over your knuckles and then onto your wrist. Do the same when taking your bracelet off. > STORE SAFELY ~ Always store your jewelry safely in a soft pouch or secured in a box or drawer. Never wear your jewelry to bed and remove when sleeping.
