Description: This is a Very Good Condition RARE (I can't find another copy for sale anywhere in the World at time of first listing) Signed Book "The Hieroglyphics of Mystery and Meaning", self published by James J. Samarin. If you mouse over the pictures, you will see that it is a book about Mysticism, Truth and God and also contains Poems written by his son and himself. From the preface: "Truth cannot be discovered. It is spirit that leads to truth. The Spirit is the formless principle of life and the vehicle is a form in which trhis principle functions." Obviously, he didn't have an editor looking over his shoulder.Amazingly, the book was both written by James. J. Samarin and printed letterpress by a printer also named James J. Samarin, no direct relation, but a very, very distant cousin. The author's signature, first in Russian, second in English (definitely NOT the printer's) has a #1 above it because the author signed the very first copy for his semi-doppleganger printer. The book was printed letterpress by Mock Printing, South Pasadena, California. The cover was printed with hand set monotype, as are all the fancy letters at the beginning of each epistle. The cover type is Bodoni Bold and the fancy letters are Gallia, both cast by Los Angeles Type Foundry, Los Angeles, California. The cover ink is Victory Red made by Kramer Inks, Los Angeles. Like most of the oil based red inks of the time, it is probably made with cyanide, so don't chew on the cover or let a child near it. _________________________________FREE Domestic Expertly Packaged, Insured Economy Shipping.
