Description: This miniature is a portrait of Simonetta Di Cosimo originally painted by Piero Di Cosimo (1480). Born in Florence, Piero is recorded in the studio of the painter Cosimo Rosselli in 1480, from whom he took his second name. He was later much influenced by Leonardo da Vinci. He was known as an idiosyncratic and imaginative painter. Vasari says he loved animals and plants. Simonetta Vespucci or la bella Simonetta, as she was called, was an Italian noblewoman born in Genoa. She was known as the greatest beauty of her time in Northern Italy and she was the muse and the model during the Renaissance.This is a later rendition, signed by Mary. The piece is done on celluloid and set in an Italian celluloid frame with convex glass. The piece is in very good condition with an easel and a hook for hanging. Measurements are: 3 7/8" by 3 3/8".
