Description: Back in the early 1970's a lot of artist/illustrators made the leap to creating "fine art" by creating large versions of their iconic illustrated characters. Bob Kane certainly did this in creating large BATMAN serigraphs and Andy Warhol turned Mickey Mouse into a respectable artistic subject. Satirist and comic strip creator Al Capp also entered the domain of "respectable art" by creating larger than life images of his famous Dogpatch characters Lil Abner and Daisy Mae in one panel scenes. These prints were original serigraphs or silkscreens that were issued in limited editions and signed, dated and numbered by the artist. This colorful lithograph measures 24" high and 29" across. It is signed "Al Capp 1975" in pencil at the lower righr (photo 3). It is pencil numbered proof 1 of a total edition of 250. This image shows the fetching Daisy Mae disdaining being an object of desire and pursuing a career as a nuclear physicist . The slimy boss is more than ready to hire her on the spot. The paper is thick cream colored linen parchment and the inks are bright and bold. There is an ink blindstamp and date from Al Capp on the backside of the image (photo 16). At one time, this seller had dozens of these images in his collection but only a few remain as the art walls are totally covered. These Al Capp original prints are very collectable and epitomize the genre of pop art. Artwork will be carefully rolled and shipped in a tube because of its large size.
