Description: ALICE ADAMS One of the best-known works by celebrated American novelist Booth Tarkington, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for 1921. This is the hardcover first printing, first state, with the words "you" and "why" interposed in line fourteen of page 419 (last photo). This copy includes a clipped original signature of Tarkington, neatly affixed to the first page. A rare first, particularly scarce signed. This copy is in about average condition for its age. The covers show general handling, as seen in the photos, no major flaws. The binding is slightly rolled and shows weakening in a few places. The text has a scuff at the top corner (photo #9). The interior is otherwise in very good shape, only a little soiling, no creases or loose pages, etc. Overall certainly a presentable copy of a rare collector's item, at a very low price.
