Description: You are bidding on one lot of 3 long patternmakers wood gouges as pictured. The largest is marked "D R BARTON 1832 ROCHESTER, NY" inside their usual oval logo, and the two smaller gouges are not marked. The middle size gouge and the Barton gouge have matching handles.Included are:--- The narrowest gouge. Width at the sharp end is almost a 32nd under 5/16" (about .285") measured outside edge to outside edge with calipers. Length of the blade, from the sharp edge to the near edge of the octagonal bolster, is about 12-3/4". Overall length including the handle is about 18-3/8". --- The middle width gouge. Width at the sharp end is not quite 9/16" (about .545") measured outside edge to outside edge with calipers. Length of the blade, from the sharp edge to the near edge of the octagonal bolster, is about 13". Overall length including the handle is about 19-5/8". --- The widest gouge, which is the Barton. Width at the sharp end is about 1-5/16" (about 1.32") measured outside edge to outside edge with calipers. Measured upper tip to upper tip is about a 16th less. Length of the blade, from the sharp edge to the near edge of the octagonal bolster, is about 13-5/8". Overall length including the handle is about 20-3/16". Individual weights of the gouges are 3.8 ounces, 6.8 ounces, and 14.6 ounces.Condition of the blades on all three is good to very good, with lots of scattered patina (color) on all three, no pitting on the 5/16", a few spots of pitting on the 9/16", and some faint pitting on the inside of the Barton. Condition of all three handles is good, better with a cleaning. The 5/16" has some chips as shown, the 9/16" is in the best condition of the three, and the Barton has one large chip and a variety of smaller chips (see the next to last picture). All of the handles and ferrules seem quite tight. The winner gets all three gouges! SHIPPING: 3 pounds when boxed, shipped US Postal Service Ground Advantage, insurance is included. No International shipping. l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching my postings as I have LOTS more to list!Searching my listings: I have lots to see! Some of you will undoubtedly enjoy browsing through everything, but if you want to hone in on something specific, I suggest you click on the "Visit Store" link in Seller Information section in the upper right of this listing. That will lead you to my extensive system of categories. How to subscribe to my eBay newsletter? Every Friday eBay sends out my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click the VISIT STORE to go to my eBay store and then click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER. That will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time. ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on eBay, and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and auctions with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you bid, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please bid with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. And if you have made an error, and bought the wrong size, for example, I will still take care of you (but I’ll let you pay the return shipping!).USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASES: I use the Post Office for everything, and yes, the shipping charges just keep going up and up. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don't ask, the answer is no.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$. AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.PACKAGING: Please check my feedback -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper.I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
