As an English teacher and a literacy teacher at the high school level, I found the text Caught Ya, Grammar with a Giggle, to be very useful. I adapted the process in the book to use as an ongoing engagement tool with my literacy students in high school. That seemed to work very well. As the back cover states, “ Bring giggles to your classroom with this effective and entertaining method for teaching grammar, usage, mechanics, and vocabulary. The book contains enough starters for a whole year of classroom teaching.” Actually, I found the idea behind the book to be far more useful than the examples, and adapted it to my own uses. Take Five for Language Arts says it is for grades six through 12. As you can see from the photos of the pages each page gives you a mini lesson that you can use. Use them as is, or adapt them to your own purposes and create mini lessons by weeks, or match your mini lessons up to your units. Classroom Strategies for Interactive Learning goes into much more detail and background information for some of the more common classroom strategies and graphic organizers. I am a retired teacher/professor and I’m looking for a good home for many of the books on my shelves now that I no longer need them. Please consider adopting these and using them and your imagination to increase the engagement of your students over the next year.
