Cuba (1912-1985) • Title: Untitled • Technique: mixed media / cardboard • Measurement: 42 ½ x 29 inches (34 ½ x 48 inches) • Executed: 1977 • Signed: Cabrera Moreno 77 PROVENANCE Private collection, Havana, acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Graduated in painting from the San Alejandro School in 1942. He held his first solo exhibition at the Lyceum in Havana in September 1943. Later, he traveled to the United States and took a course at the Art Students. In 1949 he traveled to Europe, and in Spain he began a series of realistic charcoal drawings with popular characters that culminated in Cuba with the oil painting "The Charcoal Burners of Mégano." Like many other artists, the Cuban Revolution was not foreign to him and he incorporated characters and themes related to that historical moment into his works. In the early 60s, he highlighted a cycle of his epic painting stage; Heroes and riders to consolidate in the 70s his erotic-style work, perhaps the most known. Among the distinctions received, the First Mention in the VIII International Drawing Prize Joan Miró, Barcelona, Spain, in 1969 stands out. Servando was an artist of great sensitivity and technical mastery, stigmatized by his sexual preference and the time he had to live, which has negatively affected the deserved international recognition of his work. Among his most recognized series are "The Habaneras," with its female profiles tilted with a romantic aura.SERVANDO CABRERA MORENO. Pintor. Dibujante. Arte Cubano. Arte contemporáneo.
