Description: Product Listing - Satoshi Kon Manga Collection Vol.1 Description "Satoshi Kon Manga Collection Vol.1: Curve Wide Edition Original Manuscripts 1984-1986" A collection of works by Satoshi Kon, drawn while he was a student at Musashino Art University from 1984 (age 20) to 1986 (age 22), published in 3 volumes in the original magazine-sized manuscript version. A collection of short stories from the young manga artist days of world-renowned filmmaker Satoshi Kon. Satoshi Kon continues to receive worldwide acclaim as an animation director. Even now, 12 years after he passed away at the young age of 46 on August 24, 2010, his directorial works continue to attract attention in various ways, become a hot topic, and are watched by many people. Especially nowadays, when 3D video creation has become commonplace, it can be said that his qualities and value as a "filmmaker" are increasing, not limited to anime. The basis of Kon's creativity is the manga he published in his 20s. Kon debuted as a manga artist in 1985, and his talent blossomed while he was involved in animation. The manga works he created before he was involved in animation will be published in a series of wide-format [original manuscript ver.] editions. ▼[Wide-format/Original manuscript ver.] "Wide-format" = A powerful B5 size that is different from previously published comics. It reproduces the same size as when the work was first published in a magazine. "Original manuscript ver." = The texture of the manuscript paper, such as the pencil lines and the shadows of the cut and pasted parts, is preserved and printed (reproduced in one color) while leaving behind the parts that were previously cut and not visible. ▼Volume 1 Contents The first volume of the posthumous short story collection "Fossil of Dreams - Kon Satoshi Complete Short Stories" (published by Kodansha) is rearranged in the order in which the works were written and divided into two volumes. The six works included are "Toriko," "Curve," "Bakasawagi," "Yukyu Kozo," "Kincho no Natsu," and "Focus." The title work, "Curve," was an honorable mention in the 11th Chiba Tetsuya Award and was published in Kodansha's "Young Magazine" in 1985, marking the artist's first commercial magazine debut. It is an action sci-fi story set in the near future with a supernatural theme, and is an ambitious short story that resembles the introduction to a long story. "Bakasawagi" is the last work submitted to win the 13th Chiba Tetsuya Award for Outstanding Newcomer, and is a youth comedy about a high school baseball team, a stark contrast to "Curve." The oldest work included is "Toriko," which is included at the beginning of the volume and won the 10th Chiba Tetsuya Award for Outstanding Newcomer. This work, likely written in 1984, is a rare work from his amateur days before his debut (please note that the original manuscript is unknown, so the print will not be the "original manuscript version"). All of the works in this volume were created while Kon was a student at Musashino Art University (graduating in 1987). At the end of the volume, an interview with Susumu Hirasawa, a musician who is indispensable to Kon's anime, will be expanded and reprinted. This series will be published as a rare and luxurious commemorative project. Don't miss this rare opportunity! About the author Kon Satoshi Born October 12, 1963. Originally from Hokkaido.
