Audio Outputs: The Samsung SUHD LED-LCD television provides analog and digital audio outputs: Digital Audio (Dolby Digital/DTS): The optical digital output terminal on the One Connect Mini box will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, or USB ports. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo or a matrixed 5.1ch signal (DTS Neo 2:5) from sources connected to the TV via RCA.Analog Audio: The analog audio output is a 3.5mm minijack terminal (labeled "Audio Out") on the back of the television. This minijack audio output can be used to connect the television to an analog 2-channel receiver. You will need a minijack-to-RCA adapter (sold separately) to make a stereo RCA connection between the television and your soundbar speaker or AV receiver. The TV's analog audio output terminals will output 2ch audio from any of the television's source inputs. ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 4 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 4 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary. Wireless Audio Connectivity: The Samsung TV provides wireless connectivity to compatible Samsung SoundShare soundbar speaker systems and Samsung SoundConnect wireless multi-room speaker systems. You can also wirelessly stream audio from the TV to a set of Bluetooth headphones or a single Bluetooth audio speaker. SoundShare: The TV is compatible with the SoundShare feature found on some Samsung active soundbar speaker systems (sold separately). Once the two are paired, you can control the volume and mute the sound by using the remote control from the TV or the speaker system. If you change the soundbar speaker system from TV mode to another mode or turn it off, the TV audio will resume playing from the TV's speakers. Bluetooth HP: Thanks to the TV's built-in Bluetooth, you can pair a single set of Bluetooth headphones or one Bluetooth speaker with the Samsung television. I ordered the 8500 from Crutchfield's "scratch and dent" inventory, and it looks as good as new. Although the outer cardboard box looked a little rough when it arrived, the TV was packaged well and didn't suffer any damage whatsoever. A nice TV at a great price. I haven't had many TVs in my life (57 yrs. 4 tvs) so I wanted to make sure I bought the most current one technology wise. I haven't installed it yet, (I am still building my entertainment center) but I have no regrets buying this set. I am hooking it up with my new Yamaha stereo receiver R-N602, all in one Samsung Blueray, CD, DVD player, Denon turntable, and Polk bookshelf speakers. Nature herself should look so good! I have to believe that more and more providers will be sending their content on 4K in the near future.Pros: Clarity, color seperation, ease and simplicity of set up, and remote control through the Smart Hub is very cool and innovative.Cons: It will take me a long time to explore all of the features available on the internet through the Smart Hub. My DLP started intermittently freezing and going black. It was time to upgrade. After having 10 yrs of almost trouble free use (one lamp replacement), I had a preference for the Samsung brand. After several days of reading reviews and weighing pros and cons of different brands and price points I decided on the JS8500. In rural Idaho the 3-5 day delivery didn't quite hold up. I received it on the 6th business day. No big deal. Hookup and setup was easy and flawless. Satellite TV, Blu-ray player, and vizio 5.1 soundbar, and wireless router connected without issues. Picture is flawless. Smart hub is still being investigated. Many other features of the TV are still untouched - Voice recognition for instance. I don't know all the buzz words and technical jargon when it comes to televisions. All that I can say is that this is TV is awesome. The color is magnificent. The Smart Tv apps are relevant and work great. The remote is simple to use (even though I use a Ray Super Remote to replace all of my remotes). The sound is actually very good even w/out a soundbar or receiver system. I really haven't found any negatives with it. Also, it pairs amazingly easy via Bluetooth with a Samsung Soundbar (I got the J550 to go with this TV). The "Extras" are pretty neat if you're into what it offers. I haven't used it too much, yet, but I can see where people that like to follow social media along with some shows would love this feature. Or, to find out what actors are in a particular show or movie.Pros: Easy setup Amazing color Ease of pairing wirelessly with a Samsung Soundbar Relavant and useful Smart Tv apps Extras feature Decent stand-alone soundCons: I honestly haven't come across any, yet. If you don't buy from Crutchfield, make sure seller is factory authorized. This TV is fantastic. I did a lot of research before buying. The js9000 series is also very good, but I prefer a flat screen. Regular TV broadcasting is very good. Try the Netflix 4K offerings. They are free, if you are member. The only way to describe is. Eye popping, slack jaw, out of this world. It almost looks like 3D. I would highly recommend this TV for anyone looking for an amazing picture.Pros: Fantastic picture. Good value. Smart hub. Best Color Ever!Rudy from Fort Lauderdale FL on 12/6/2015Verified customerAfter reading about the technical features of the SUHD line from Samsung, I decided to purchase this particular model with the expectation that the nanocrystals would produce more realistic, vivid colors. After owning this TV for just a couple of weeks, I have to say I am not disappointed! Colors are vibrant without being cartoonish, and blacks are exceptional for an LCD-based display. Believe me, you haven't seen true red until you've seen it on a nanocrystal display! The 1080p signal from my cable DVR is unconverted by the set very effectively, producing a natural, pleasant (and often very revealing) scaled image from even programs as mundane as the local news broadcasts. Native UHD content played back from my NAS looks sharp and clear, and the variety of apps from which you can stream 4K videos is unmatched by any other manufacturer. Setup was quick and easy, and the TV has many options which allow you to configure the image for a wide variety of lighting conditions and sources. The true-to-life skin tones, rich blues, deep greens, and intense reds give the images produced by the JS8500 incredible depth and brilliance. It has, in my opinion, the best color ever!Pros: None.Cons: Rock-solid 3D performance, awesome color rendition, great blacks, and impressive smart features.Was this helpful?
