What is a Silver Strike?A Silver Strike is a Limited Edition Gaming Token which is won from a special slot machine in a protective plastic holder. People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens. The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The tokens have been issued with redeemable values of $2, $3, $7, $10, $20, $28, $40, $200 and $300. The most common denomination is $10. Sam's Town:Sam's Town opened on April 1, 1979 at 5111 Boulder Highway and remains open today. It was one of the first local casinos in the Las Vegas Valley and was named after founder Sam Boyd. The hotel and casino are still owned and operated under the Boyd Gaming umbrella. It features 646 rooms and 120,681 sq. ft. of gaming space. One unique feature in Sam's Town is the "Mystic Falls Park" which has a large glass-roofed atrium with tall living trees, cobblestone paths, and a waterfall in the center. The Sunset Stampede Laser Light and Water Show is performed several times during the day and evening. About Sam Boyd:Sam was born April 23, 1910 in Enid Oklahoma. In 1941, he arrived in Las Vegas with is family and $80 in his pocket. He worked up through the ranks around Las Vegas moving up from dealer to pit boss and to shift boss. He saved enough money to invest in the Sahara Hotel. He became general manager and partner at The Mint in downtown Las Vegas. In 1968, Sam started managing the Eldorado Casino in Henderson. In 1975, Sam and his son Bill founded Boyd Gaming and operated the California Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. The began marketing tho an underserved market - tourists of Hawaii. Their Sam's Town adventure came in 1979 when they decided to cater to the local Las Vegas market. Sam Boyd was known for his integrity, service and excellence. Fun Fact: The 2006 album "Sam's Town" by the Killers was named after the casino.
