Description: For sale is a ceramic mug featuring the art of Chiura Obata. The mug is fully wrapped with a detail of Obata's 1930 woodcut print titled Lake Basin in the High Sierra, a piece gifted by the artist's family to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Japanese-American Obata's summer of 1927 in the Sierra Nevada was a turning point in his career. The original, printed by Tadeo Takamizawa, measures 11 3/8" x 15 5/8". The mug is probably a souvenir from the Smithsonian's 2019 - 2020 exhibit "Chiura Obata: American Modern." This mug is in very good condition with no damage and light shelf wear; it appears unused. It is marked in black on the bottom for SAAM: Smithsonian American Art Museum. There is a paper origin sticker on the handle. Made in Thailand.
