After finishing high school, Scholuch pursued an officer's career and underwent training at the War Academy in Perm. Scholuch then served on the western front near Lemberg as a young lieutenant. During the Russian Civil War he served under General Wrangel and was promoted to lieutenant in 1919. The following year he emigrated to Gallipoli, where his troops regrouped to fight marauding Red sailors. In 1921 he was sent to an internment camp in Alexandria. After his release, Scholuch went to Paris, where he first worked in an automobile factory. In his spare time he worked on founding the Ural Cossack Choir, with which he first toured in 1924, taking him to Spain, France, Portugal, Benelux, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The seat of the choir then also became Germany. After the dissolution in 1972, Scholuch devoted himself to orthodox church music until his death.The Black Sea Cossack Choir is a Cossack choir founded in Germany in 1938.1938-1967After the First World War, Cossack choirs emerged outside of Russia, cultivating the songs of their homeland with its wealth of melodies. The first conductor and founder of the Black Sea Cossack Choir was Boris Ledkovsky (1894–1975)[1], who conducted the choir together with Nikolai S. von Orloff[2] (1900–1990), who emigrated to Lemgo from Russia during the October Revolution of 1917 . Orloff was a Protestant clergyman[2][3][4] and also founded the "Russian Brother Aid" in Lemgo.[5][6]Under the direction of Orloff, the choir completed Europe-wide tours,[2] performed mainly in churches, was also the synodal choir of the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany[7] and also gave concerts under the patronage of the Inner Mission of the Evangelical Church.[8 ] There was also a collaboration with the Reichs-Rundfunk in Berlin,[8] the choir achieved worldwide fame with its Russian and Ukrainian Cossack songs.[9]In 1951 Ledkovsky emigrated to the USA with some of the choir's singers and founded a choir of the Russian Orthodox Church there.[10] Since then, the Black Sea Cossacks have been under the sole patronage of the "Bruderhilfe" and its managing director Nikolai Orloff. He used to be the head of the Ural Cossack Choir, which was dissolved in 1940 and later re-established.[11]In 1955 Sergej Horbenko,[8] formerly conductor of the Kiev Opera and professor[9] at the Music Academy in Kiev, took over the musical direction. During this time there was a split in the choir when Andrej Scholuch founded his second Ural Cossack choir with some singers from the Black Sea Cossacks.[11] The ensemble members of the 1950s also included Ivan Rebroff[3] and Orloff's son Peter Orloff, who sang in the Black Sea Cossack Choir for ten years from the age of 14.[12]Due to Horbenko's health restrictions, his new deputy Leonid Doroynski conducted the choir from 1960 to 1962,[13] he was followed by the former conductor and founder of the Volga Cossacks Nikolai Tripolitoff,[14] who also included the dance elements of Russian folk music. At that time, the Black Sea Cossacks almost always performed at secular concerts with several dancers and also with a bayan (Russian accordion). Tripolitoff conducted the choir until 1967.At the end of the 1960s, Nikolai Orloff decided to give up the choir's activities.
