Rufino Tamayo, one of the most internationally recognized Mexican painters of the 20th century, was able to blend his Mexican heritage and pre-Hispanic art with international avant-garde movements, creating pieces characterized by color, perspective, harmony, and texture. Tamayo took the avant-garde movements and applied them to the Mexican context. As Pereda added, this painter "operates as the translation of this Mexican world, so complex, so beautiful, so unique, in other places, bringing that heritage, that context, to turn it into something that ceases to be merely Mexican, so that without ceasing to be so, it becomes something else, something that can be appreciated by someone educated within the international avant-garde."RUFINO TAMAYO.
