Description: This 1983 3LP box set from CBS Masterworks (79359) is a recording of a 1980 performance of Rossini's La Cenerentola. This comic opera is in three acts across three LPs, and features Francisco Araiza, Enzo Dara, Domenico Trimarchi, Emilia Ravaglia, Marilyn Schmiege and Alessandro Corbelli. They are accompanied by the Male Chorus of Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Köln (Chorus Master Herbert Schnernus) and the Capella Coloniensis with original instruments, directed by Gabrielle Ferro. Included is an album-sized 40-page booklet containing liner notes, performer biographies and the lyrics of the opera in German, English, French and Italian. The box shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). There is also a small white speck found on Side 4 (Disc 2) that seems to have been embedded in the vinyl at pressing time. (See Photos 8 & 9) We have played the disc several times on a Thorens SD 126 Mk III turntable, and in every test the stylus tracked right over it without difficulty and with only a single pop on the soundtrack. This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
