One of an extremely limited production of just 100 personal Presidential gifts, the buckle measures approx. 2.75" x 2.25" and is made of actual wood from the White House, reclaimed during its second historic renovation. The core of the imposing buckle features the Presidential Coat of Arms in platinum with black accents, and is ringed with the words "PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - STAFF". The reclaimed wood was used in the original 1792 construction of the White House, survived the fire set by the British in the War of 1812, and witnessed all of the intervening history, up to and including the arrival of the 40th President. The precious, history-soaked wood has been polished to a luster that serves as a perfect complement to the black and platinum Seal. A poignant gesture from Reagan, whose own rugged style and affinity for the American cowboy ethic was well known, presented the buckles to key advisors, lieutenants and most trusted staff members in the opening days of his Presidency. The intensely personal and symbolic gift sent the unmistakable message that Reagan viewed the position of President as being more than just one man, and instead was made up of a team of individuals sharing a bold vision, intent on supporting and building a nation, while making the world a better, safer, more vibrant place. It was a gift that conveyed to the recipient that much was expected and there was much to be done -- and acceptance of that gift meant acceptance of the mission and all it entailed. These Presidential Staff Belt Buckles that were made of material that had supported the White House through triumph and tragedy, and the most trying challenges and tests a nation and its people can know, marked a first for an American President. It was a signal and symbol that Ronald Reagan had an obligation to the United States and to history, and he was prepared to deliver. Some of those who received the buckles wore them with pride, while others had them framed and placed within their respective offices as a visual reminder of what needed to be done, what President Ronald Reagan had promised to do, and of their role and responsibility in realizing that ambitious goal. This exceedingly rare Presidential gift, personally presented by Ronald Reagan in January 1981, has been expertly mounted and encased by the White House Framing Unit. It has been preserved and protected since the very first days of the Reagan Presidency, more than 40 years ago. It is rare and personal Presidential gift, and something that is seldom seen and largely unknown to the general public. As one of just 75 that were commissioned and presented by President Reagan, these buckles are historically priceless. Seldom do such items come to market and when they do, typically only one person is fortunate enough to acquire and own it. Identical buckles sold at auction between 2011 and 2020 have commanded prices of up to $5,000. This is an incredibly rare piece of American Presidential history, and a moving memento of one of the most prolific Presidents of all time. It originates directly with Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States, and it was inside the White House itself for much of what the world reverently refers to as "The Reagan Years". It is a one-of-a-kind relic of our nation's greatest days, a unique and unmatched witness to history, and testament to what a driven and inspired man and leader can accomplish when backed by an equally devoted and capable team. Includes an authentic vintage sheet of White House stationery. Issued by the White House, this is an extremely rare opportunity to own a piece of Presidential history unlike any other.
