Description: For sale is one of two extremely well executed New England impressionist pencil drawings of Rockport Massachusetts that we are selling here in our eBay Store. (Check eBay Store for the other if still available) Provenance: We purchased these at a fine antique auction in upstate New York. We were given the provenance of Tillou antiques in Buffalo NY. One of the two drawings (see both/other listing) has a, since closed, Buffalo NY frame shop stencil. We do know that Dana Tillou Fine Arts is in Buffalo NY. That's all we know about it. This drawing is graphite on paper. It features a view down a residential street looking directly at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sandy Bay in Rockport Massachusetts just off of Main St. The artist is a master at capturing the effect of sunlight and shading on the buildings and surrounding landscape. The contrast between light and darks areas is superbly executed. See all pictures for the stunning attention to detail in this artwork. Clearly signed Emile A Gruppe on the bottom. We have looked very hard, and can find a very few examples of drawings by this artist. What we do know is, this is certainly by the hand of a master artist with extensive training and skill level. We sell this as a Rockport School New England impressionist drawing. This work was not framed when we acquired it. Just matted. We added an inexpensive frame for photo purposes. The artwork will ship as pictured in the frame unless you do not want the frame, however the frame is not considered part of this sale. Condition: Some areas of paper indentations. Areas of soiling.
