Don Laughlin bought the southern tip of Nevada in 1964. In 1966, he opened the Riverside Resort with 12 slot machines, 2 table games and 8 motel rooms, 4 of which were occupied by his family. Today, the property has over 1400 hotel rooms, casino, 6 screen cinema, bowling center, car museum, and a full service RV park with over 700 spaces. What is a Silver Strike?A Silver Strike is a Limited Edition Gaming Token which is won from a special slot machine and is in a protective plastic holder. People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens. The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The tokens have been issued with redeemable values of $2, $3, $7, $10, $20, $28, $40, $200 and $300. The most common denomination is $10. Did you know that the older silver strikes have a higher silver content? When the price of silver went up, the silver content went down - it was impossible to make a $10 silver strike for $10. Many silver strikes today are CLAD or heavy silver plated.
