Description: Remington Schuyler [1884-1955] was a well known American Pulp Artist who is probably best known for his Wild West themed works. During the course of this 30 years of volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America he did numerous illustrations for Boys' Life and the Boy Scout Handbook. As a B.S.A. artist he is less well known than his contemporaries such as J.C. Leyendecker and Norman Rockwell. Though interesting he lived in the same community as the two aforementioned artists after his move to New Rochelle, NY in 1916. The most famous Schuyler work I am aware of that he created for the Boy Scouts of America was the 1953 National Jamboree poster. It is interesting that even though he did lots of illustrations for B.S.A. almost none of his scouting works come onto the market and into the hands of collectors. I have this original pastel framed with UV protective glass. The opening in the matting is approximately 7 1/2 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches tall. James E. West, shown in the pastel, was the 1st Chief Scout Executive and served from 1911-1943. I am not sure of an exact date on when this was made, but would guess sometime in the early 1940s.
