Rees Logan Meadow Harp--29 strings

Description: This is a used but like new Logan Meadow Rees harp that stands 46" tall at the tip of the pillar, is 23.5" in length, is 12.5" at the base, and weighs 15 lbs. Also included is a tuning wrench and nine harp books valued at over $100. NOTE: Due to photographic issues beyond my control, some strings look broken but they are not; I think they didn't photograph correctly in front of my light colored background. In reality they are all in good condition. Rees harps are considered by most lever harpists to be top of the line--creme de la creme. One reason is because of their assymetrical sound board. Here is an excerpt from their website:The purpose of an asymmetrical soundboard is to do for harps what asymmetrical bracing does for guitars or the off-center placement of the soundpost and bass bar does for violins. The perfectly symmetrical nature of the traditional harp soundboard (See Diagram 1) lends itself to something engineers call "wave canceling." Wave canceling occurs when two wave frequencies (sounds, in this case) are modulated equally but are opposite. The high point in one wave is canceled out (attenuated) by the low point in another wave. The result is a much diminished voicing. In a symmetrical harp this means that when some strings are plucked they voice more quietly than do their neighbors. The opposite is also true in that symmetrical soundboards can lend themselves to an accidental doubling of a frequency, which, in the harp community, we call a "wolf tone."An asymmetrical soundboard (See Diagram 2) breaks up both of these patterns.Effective asymmetrical performance in a harp soundboard is best achieved by setting the midrib and strings off-center. Overall, testing has shown that Rees asymmetrical instruments have a greater sensitivity to a wider range of tones than do comparable symmetrical instruments. The real-world test of an asymmetrical soundboard is when a performer goes into a recording studio and works with an experienced recording engineer. Time after time, the feedback to us has been amazement because there is no need to adjust for the harp. Engineers can set the levels to neutral all the way across the board. While no performer purchases their harp because their recording engineer recommends it, it is worth thinking about the fact that recording engineers, by definition, have some of the best and most highly trained ears in the world and while they may have no understanding of harps, they have an acute understanding of instruments as a tool of music and music is, after all, the whole point. Some other distinguishing points of Rees harps are (from their website):1. Rees harps don't require a special tuning wrench--just a standard drum key that you can buy at any music store or Amazon. (One is included with this harp)2. Rees has been a leader in building lighter weight wood harps with huge voices for years. You should not have to decide between being able to handle your instrument and having it voice with a concert quality intonation and dynamic range. William applies classical lutherie techniques to pack lots of voice into the fewest pounds possible so that younever sacrifice what you hear for what you carry.3. Because so many lever harps have large, wide, deep soundboxes which taper away from the soundboard at the base, harpists have to have a longer reach, tilt the harp to a steeper angle, and sit with their legs farther apart in order to accommodate the large soundbox. Since Rees harps are smaller in all of these respects (See Flat Backs vs Staved or Round Backs), there is considerably more leg room and harpers are able to more comfortably sit with the harp. Additionally, in response to requests from our customers of smaller stature, we are now offering all concert line Rees harps with a narrower shoulder. This beautiful lever harp by Rees Harps is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. With 29 strings and made of cherry wood, this Logan Meadow harp is perfect for both beginners and professionals and is ideal for playing folk and world music. Note: Logan Meadow harps have been discontinued but were made to the same exacting standards as all of their harps.
