Discounted: GARLITS OCIR Fire-Burnout Poster, 1974 AHRA Drags/Orange County/NHRA

Description: Original national-event poster is solid & bright. Kept indoors since seller removed from a parts store's bulletin board 49 years ago. Printed on glossy, heavyweight, 17x22.5" paper (not cardboard). Only noticeable flaws on front side are pinholes in all four corners (as depicted in our close-ups) & 1974-vintage surface dirt. Plain back side is scratched in one place & spotted overall. No attempt was made to clean or otherwise restore the poster. Please view all 10 photos here before bidding. OCIR's image suffered in the famed Super Track's transition to American Hot Rod Association sanction & direct control—as evidenced in the sloppy artwork here. Rather than pop for a proper, full-four-color reproduction of a Don Garlits fire burnout, AHRA's Missouri-based management saved some pennies by settling for a B&W picture crudely tinted with cheaper "spot" ink. Also note that the OCIR logo art has lost its familiar red-&-blue colors, while the logo's race car somehow shed its front wheels & tires! The wheels came off for AHRA president Jim Tice later this year, largely the result of this money-losing Grand American West. Although the three-day meet enjoyed perfect spring weather & fantastic pro racing (Garlits won), nothing that weekend could compete with Saturday's first California Jam at Ontario Motor Speedway. Some quarter-million attendees evidently included tens of thousands of expected drag fans who never showed. The financial loss might've been been the largest in track history (1967-83). This rare artifact of OCIR's troubled 1973-75 AHRA era is carefully wrapped with butcher paper & double-tubed for safe shipping. Additionally, both ends of our round inner tube are wrapped in plastic & padded for cushioning against the outer USPS carton's triangular end flaps. (Please see photos for sample packaging.)
