Description: This is an Important and Very RARE Vintage Asian THAI Modern Cubist Still Life Oil Painting on Masonite, by esteemed Thailand Modernist painter and printmaker, Manote Kongkananda (b. 1934.) This artwork depicts a cubistic still life scene, with a plate of several fish and a small tray of fruits or vegetables, which are all residing on a large wooden kitchen table, with chairs visible at the upper edge. This overall image was initially carved and etched into the Masonite, only to be painted afterward. This unique artistic choice gives this painting a near three-dimensional effect when viewed from any angle. Signed and dated: "Manote '65" in the lower left corner. Approximately 29 x 31 3/8 (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 26 inches. Very good condition for over half a century of age and storage, with a few spots of moderate scuffing and paint loss to the surface, and some light edge wear to the original period Southeast Asian style ornate wooden frame (please see photos.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. Manote Kongkananda's original artworks are in the permanent collections of the National Museum Silpa Bhirasri Memorial, Rama IX Art Museum Collection, and his public mural Yellow Sun, (c. 1976) is on public display at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok, Thailand. His original paintings never come up for sale, and this is the first one to ever be offered on eBay or the secondary market. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
