Description: Time marches on, but it has left behind this incredible wooden box. Here's a hard-to-find "Elgin Genuine Material Case," from the late 1920s, that was used by watchmakers to fix intricate timepieces. Remarkably, it still has more than 260 original glass vials/capsules that held tiny watch repair pieces. And a number of the capsules still contain watch hands, screws, arbors and other doodads from decades ago. In addition, it comes with two hard, double-sided cardboard guides loaded with information -- retail price list ("Effective April 1, 1927"), watch specs, a directory about the capsule numbers and details about mainsprings. The vintage wood box/case was produced by the Elgin National Watch Co., based in Elgin, Illinois. It has four lovely drawers and features tongue-and-groove joints, a sign of great craftsmanship, and brass knobs. The box's exterior has been expertly refinished, restoring this rare item to its old glory, and it displays a wonderful Elgin nameplate. The wooden box is in wonderful clean, vintage condition. No ugly finish or musty smells or wood falling apart. This box is solid, sturdy. The green felt in two drawers is in nice shape with only slight signs of age/discoloration. A great find for watch collectors or those who treasure outstanding vintage boxes. And a remarkable piece of history! Measures 13" wide x 9.5" deep x 9.5" tall; weighs about 10 lb.
