Description: Rare Texas Instruments 904A Silicon Transistor Offered for sale is a Texas Instruments 904A silicon transistor from the late 1950s. The 900 Series transistors are historic and collectable as they were the first transistors commercially sold using silicon instead of germanium. Silicon ultimately replaced germanium as the primary semiconductor material due to its suitability for higher heatenvironments and superior performance characteristics. Silicon transistors led to the concurrent development of the integrated circuit by TI and Fairchild Semiconductor around 1960. This transistor is NOS (New Old Stock) in its original white and red "matchbook" packaging. The transistor is in an unpainted metal 3-lead package with 904A printed on the device along with a 6-digit production code (see photos). The TI logo is printed on the other side. It has the rarer gold plated leads vs. tinned leads. It is in excellent condition. This is a working device and as expected the measured hfe (gain) is low compared to later devices. Gain measures typically between 12 and 30. A rare, beautiful collectable sample of an important milestone in semiconductor history. ~ US Stocked…Fast USA Shipping ~
