It dates back to 1924. The image is that of one of Moscow's impressive classic buildings, the old Club of Moscow Nobility which the communists turned into the headquarters of the Trade Union. The mood here is somewhat ominous and foreboding. It perfectly matches the sinister, monstrous regime of the period. A solid and evocative image. This is a very nice historic photo. It is old and there is some normal expected surface wear. There is some light soiling and the area of the sky has creases and a small short tear at the very top, but because the photograph is securely mounted on matte-board, the picture displays smoothly. For some reason, the upper left and lower right corners have been clipped. Perhaps this has something to do with a previous framing. The top of the matte-board is a bit crudely trimmed, but in a frame it is not noticed at all. Remember, the photo is a genuine historic document of the 1920's Soviet Union. It has not been tampered with. It is complete. The contours, tones and emulsion are very attractive. We would describe the picture as having a nice gloss (or semi-gloss) finish. That is subjective. In any event, this is a nice large sized item. No flimsy snapshot. The item measures approximately 6 ¼ x 8 1.8 inches! There is a hand written caption on the the very bottom of the cardboard backing. It is not on the actual photograph. A fine historic item.
