Rare PURPLE Shades/Plaid Bodice Museum Quality Lavishly Trimmed Civil War Period

Description: Offering more of my personal antique costume collection, this eye-catching ball gown bodice dates to the 1850's-1860's Civil War period. It is in pristine condition, with no tears, splits, underarm staining or weakness. There is one tiny light-colored stain that I have included a photo of for accuracy. The colors of the silk taffeta are exquisite shades of purple, not often found. (I'm a devoted Prince fan and therefore loving purple is ingrained and inseparable from the man himself, so I know how difficult it is to find purple in antique 19th century costume☺️). The plaid silk taffeta has some Ikat bands that set it apart and little scattered orchid flowers with green leaves. The asymmetrical double row of buttons are very ornate but are only decorative as the bodice closes up the front with the original hooks and eyes. All 14 buttons are present. Measurements taken with bodice lying flat are: Chest: approx. 32" bust Waist: 22” Drop shoulders: 18" across Length: 12" shoulder to waist Neckline: wide neck has a 15" opening The short, puffed sleeves are off-the-shoulder and measure 5-6" long depending on if one measures them from the piped edge at an angle or vertically. The sleeves are lavished with rich purple silk trim with folded & ruched edging in two parallel lines. Inside you will find the sleeves are lined in brown polished cotton for stiffness. The body of the bodice is lined in a cream cotton, and the entire bodice has been hand-sewn. This is a beautifully made and well-preserved garment and truly a museum piece.
