Description: For your consideration: a rare vintage oil on canvas painting by noted Australian Aboriginal Artist Eddie Taita Blitner, depicting 2 Mimi spirits in bold orange ocher and white colors. Mimi Spirits are best described as fairy-like beings of Arnhem Land in the folklore of the Top End of Australia. Their bodies are extremely thin and elongate, so thin as to be in danger of breaking in case of gust of wind. To avoid this, they usually spend most of their time in rock crevices. They are said to have taught the first Aboriginal people of Australia how to hunt, prepare kangaroo and use fire. Amazingly Mimi spirits also did the first rock paintings and taught Aboriginal people how to paint on rocks.
