Description: COLUMBIA BS COIN-OP PHONOGRAPH Nickeled & Polished BXP Version A very rare and unusual Columbia BS, utilizing a highly nickeled and polished Eagle mechanism more familiarly seen on the BXP, which was not a coin-op model. According to renowned phonograph historian and authority, George Paul, he writes in the cover story of the June 2018 issue of the Antique Phonograph magazine that some examples such as this were made by Columbia using unsold BXP mechanisms. His article states that there are two known examples, but in the intervening years a few more have turned up. This is one of them. A copy of the article will be given to the purchaser of this machine This, like other BS coin-ops, plays 2-minute cylinders on a nickel. The phonograph mechanism was based on the popular "B" (Eagle) and had a specially designed coin-op with automatic carriage return added. Columbia's introduction of this machine was designed to allow listeners an entertaining viewing display as well as a song to listen to. The 15" x 9" base had four brass feet with holes, allowing it to be bolted to a bar or counter top, preventing damage or theft. Originally fitted with a lock and key, but over the years this has gone missing. It looks like some of the glass may have been replaced, and the sign board as well. But it presents very well indeed and this very popular machine has had a long service life! We recently had the mechanism professionally serviced, adjusted and polished so that it looks as good as it plays. The 10" horn is included. available at: musicaltreasuresofmiami.com Video will open in a new window Using the eBay App?
