Rare Antique 1862 Japanese Woodblock Prints Set of 3 By Utagawa Yoshitora Japan

Description: This item is a set of 3 Antique Japanese Woodblock prints on paper. These were produced by the Japanese woodblock artist Utagawa Yoshitora and published by Izumiya Ichibei in Tokyo, Japan in October 1862. Utagawa Yoshitora was born in 1836 and died in 1880. He was a designer of ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock prints and an illustrator of books and newspapers who was active from about 1850 to about 1880. These prints depict Genji crossing the Oi River with attendants. We found one of these prints, the right most print, pictured and explained on a museum website. These prints are signed Japanese colored woodblock prints on paper depicting Prince Genji and two richly dressed women on the banks of the Oi River Prior to crossing. The other two prints depict the group crossing the river. The medium is ink. The technique is print. The support is paper. Place of manufacture was Tokyo, Japan. Each of the 3 prints measures 14-1/2" tall x 9-3/4" wide. Under the middle print, on the folder, is the stamp that bears a certification of Original Guarantee and reads the following:"Original Guarantee, By Sakai Co. Ltd. Established 1874, Tokyo Japan". These original 19th century Japanese woodblock prints were purchased from a large private collector in New Jersey. The prints were attached in tiny areas at the top two corners and placed in the pictured original trifold folder. These prints will be shipped in the folder between an extra heavy duty cardboard sleeve and wrapped with bubble wrap and placed in a box.
