Description: This is a fascinating and expressive RARE African Nigerian Modern Abstract Portrait Painting, Oil on Black Velvet, by esteemed Nigerian Modernist painter and muralist, Lawal Suleiman (b. 1966.) This artwork depicts the highly abstracted portrait of a mother holding her infant child, rendered in a kaleidoscopic array of colors and tendrils of kinetic brush strokes. The bold and bright pigments are rendered in stark relief of the jet-black canvas, creating a bold and ethereal visual effect. Signed and dated: "Lawal Suleiman '17" in the lower right corner. This impressive and large artwork is approximately 35 1/8 x 43 1/8 inches (including frame.) Very good condition, with faint scuffing and edge wear to the sleek modernist frame. Acquired from the affluent deceased estate of an African American art collector in Los Angeles County, California. Suleiman's original paintings are very seldomly available outside of his home country of Nigeria. This piece was likely purchased in Africa and shipped back to the United States, at an exorbitant financial cost. Due to the large size and weight of this piece, S&H costs will be unavoidably high. However, Free Local Pickup from Los Angeles County, California is also an option. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
