Description: RARE Acer Aspire 9800 series 20.1in MediaCenter Laptop 2.16ghz 3gb 120GBx2 NO OS This is an amazing and extremely rare laptop! I had installed Windows Vista on it and it was running perfect. But decided to try to get it back to its stock Windows XP Media Center 2005 configuration. The second part of the Windows XP install left me with a blank screen and no video output and I tried everything to no avail. I then put windows 7 on it and all was well for awhile until I turned it on one day and it now hangs at a blank screen. It is still able to boot from OS install media from the optical drive just fine. I have had this laptop for a long time and don't have time to continue to mess with it. It is a behemoth of a machine, possibly one of the largest laptops ever created. I could never figure out why the second half of my Windows XP install kept giving me a blank screen, I have to assume the hard drives may be on their way out. The Acer Recovery partition appears to still be intact which would be amazing to backup and archive if someone wanted to try. The recovery partition will boot but it also leaves you at a blank screen after the first loading bar. Due to the issue when installing XP media center edition 2005, which is ideally what a collector would want back on this laptop, this laptop is sold AS-IS. I never tried a regular windows xp home or pro install disc so I don't know if my copy was an isolated incident. This is an awesome piece of portable computer history! The AC adapter I used is only rated for half of the crazy 19V 7A one required by this machine. This does not come with an AC adapter, machine only. The battery does still hold a charge but is untested for longevity. There are scratches on the lid and around the keyboard. It has an obscure HD-DVD drive instead of a blu-ray drive. It takes about 15 seconds to load the splash screen after pressing the power button and another 30 seconds at least to get into BIOS for some reason. The CPU and GPU thermal paste has been replaced. This thing needs a good home! It weighs over 17Lbs! It will be adequately wrapped to ensure that it gets to you safely. Shoot me an offer! The worst I can do is say no!
