Description: Extremely Rare 1980 Where The Wild Things Are Bull Jumbo Plush Maurice Sendak This has been in my possession for a little over 30 years, a random gift from my mother because I loved the book as a kid. I just recently decided to look into selling it. Had a hard time because my version was bigger than anything online and my version had eyes shifting a different direction than all the others. Really no sales or info online. I was about to give up but finally found a website from the creator of these Where The Wild Things Are Dolls and the backstory behind them. If you type in Melbirnkrant Wild Things into any search engine it will bring up the page (Sorry Ebay does not allow links). These Jumbo plush dolls were the first ones created. They debuted at Brentanos Fifth Avenue store on Tuesday December 2nd 1980 where Sendak was to attend and sign books. There were 3 different characters and the creator said there was only a few hundred of these made total. You can imagine how many actually survived almost 45 years later. After this they changed the size. They list it as 21-28" but I believe they mean when it sits down because laid out straight counting the horns and legs you can see its around 40". The torso and butt are filled with a heavy weighted stuffing material. Since he is huge and heavy I will add multiple shipping services so you can choose the best price for you. There are no holes. There is some small stains on the feet and a tiny slit between one of his claws as shown but its hardly even noticeable. You can see on the site that this version of Bull was always along side Sendak in pictures. This was said to be his favorite iteration of the doll. It really is a very cool backstory. I am not pressed to sell it but more so fishing to see what kind of price range and interest there is. With only a few hundred made of the original 3 there is a good chance one of these might not pop up for along time, or at all.
