Description: This is a rare, large pennant from the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition PPIE that took place in San Francisco. This pennant measures about 16.5”x 45” (almost 4 ft long) and it features the U.S. Navy with “Battleships Entering the Golden Gate”. This expo was to commemorate the completion of the Panama Canal. In 1911 Woodrow Wilson invited the navies of the world to sail through the Panama Canal to take part in the expo. However once WWI started many had to back-out. The U.S. Navy had many of its ships represented at the Expo throughout the 10 months(probably not all at the same time), and they had a big display at the Palace of Machinery. This felt pennant does have some issues like stains and many moth holes. There is one large hole over the “N” is San, several medium holes along the border with the ties, and many small holes mostly on the bottom portion of the pennant(blue part and on the yellow letters). There is suppose to be 3 ties but one is nearly all gone, the middle tie has several moth holes and the top tie has been tied for decades and is in better condition than the other. (I have tried to group the pictures together to show you the front and back of each part) This pennant is 109 years old, large, with great subject matter. I can’t find another one like it! This would be a great addition to any PPIE or Navy collection. This pennant will be shipped rolled and in a tube. Please look over the pictures and ask questions before bidding.
