Description: This scarce 1910s Belgian "Araks-Aida" litho hinged 100 cigarette tin, measruing 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2", is in excellent condition with no rust, a crease on the lid, a tiny dent on the bottom and some very minor age related paint sctatches. The hinge is in excellent working order. This exceptional, highly attractive, bright red Art Nouveau tin features a beautiful gold silver and red fanned border framing the trademark image of the Araks-Tchamkerten Company, Antwerp, Belgium who manufactured these Egyptian style cigarettes. The interior lid has an detailed illustration of their Belgian and Swiss factories. The Tchamkerten family were Armenians who fled their homeland when the Ottoman Empire attacked them at the end of the 19th century. The Araks tins are considered to be the most beautiful tins created in Europe prior to WWI.
