Description: Up for auction is this Highly Desirable, Tremont “Melrose Watch Co.” Pocket Watch in its Original Wheeler, Parsons & Co. Coin Silver Hunting Case! This short-lived*American watch company timepiece is housed in its original signed, quad-hinged, coin silver, 18s, hunter case! It has a medium-dark grey patina (we never polish our finds), has a knurled edge center frame, an un-initialed vertical oval shaped cartouche with floral surround on the front cover and a plain back cover. Both the front and back cover reverse is stamped, “W.P. & Co. Warranteed, Coin Silver, 5”, while the dust cover reverse is stamped, “5”. Case exhibits numerous small scratches and impressions commererate with its age. It measures 3 1/8” long (including bail) x 2" diameter x 5/8” thick! The front & back covers have gold hinges, while the bezel and dust covers are silver hinged. And all open crisply with no additional play. The entire watch, case and movement weigh 4.83 ounces. The glass crystal is present, but loose. (see photos) The watch has a signed, “Tremont Watch Co.”, white, baked glass enamel single-sunk dial with Black Roman numerals, and its original cobalt blue hands! There is a minor hairline visible on the dial's field, between the 11 & 12:00 positions. Take note of the early “curved” company name under the 12. (See photos) The case contains a later, signed and functioning, Tremont movement signed, “Melrose Watch Co., Boston , SN 30419”. The balance appears ok with good motion when rocked gently back and forth. It keeps reasonable time when wound.
