Share the magic! ****** THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE MAGIC GADGET SITE on eBAY. The Heirophant, VOLUMES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Jon Racherbaumer's seminal card and close-up magazine from the 1970's. Published by Tannens in collected two-volume books in 1976. (Tannen's published four separate books, including one that had Volume 7 "The Resurrection Issue" -- sorry, but I do not have that fourth book. This listing is for three of the four Tannen books: Volumes 1 & 2, Volumes 3 & 4, and Volumes 5 & 6. Racherbaumer's Hierophant is without a doubt "required reading" for any serious card worker. A large percentage of the material is from Ed Marlo. But also contributions from Solomon, Walton, Dingle, Cervon, Ackerman, Gardner, etc etc etc The focus is on the popular plots and problems of 1970's card magic: Open Prediction, Collectors and Sandwich effects, Triumph. But also random effects, routines and techniques, as well as commentary (and some satirical essays) on the Art of Magic and the magic scene. I'll just say it: if you love card magic, and you have not read these books, you need to get them. Lucky for you, I unearthed these from decades of storage, so you won't have to look forever to find them, or pay too much when you do. Tannen's first printing of this excellent collection of card and close-up (mostly cards) was published in 1976. This first printing sold out fairly soon. In the early1980's, Tannen's did a second print run of the books. There was no change in format or edition, except for a price of "$12.50" pre-printed discreetly on the lower back corner of each book. The books for sale here are from that 2nd printing, almost 40 years ago. But they have been hiding in storage and these books are "new-old" inventory, clean, unmarked and near mint. (The books have some minor cover wear/scuffs from storage -- see the minor white smudges on the covers in the photos.) D. Robbins reprinted a hardcover collection of the complete Hierophant in 1998, which is pretty expensive (but excellent and worth it). However, in reprinting the contents of the original Heirophants, they chose to break up the material into categories, rather than reproduce it in chronological (and original published) order. This has some advantages, but also loses the look and feel of the original magazines. For this reason, I still enjoy looking back at these Tannen's editions, as it gives me a sense of the history and creative process that gave rise to the routines in these great books. When they are found for sale, these early Tannen books sell for about $16-$20 each -- not bad considering they were priced at $12.50 a piece back in the 1980's. But buy them here, and you can get three of them, all at once, at less than the 1980's cover price per book! (And only one shipping cost for all three, too.) Such a deal! +++++++++++
