Description: Using Boeing 707 aircraft, Qantas Airways introduced jet service to the Pacific area five months before Pan American was able to do so on its almost identical route. Qantas prepared printed covers with multicolor cachets. This cover was carried on the July 31, 1959 inaugural Qantas Jet flight from the San Francisco, California Airport Mail Facility to Sydney, Australia (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Jet Age Flights Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as J-156f.
